Summer is not technically over yet, although the leaves are now changing colour and it’s getting chillier at night. Not to mention school and hockey routines have started for us in Toronto - but I am still dreaming of the fun we had in Myrtle Beach last month. So I went to Rome this summer and although I did a ton of IG stories this is the first Rome photo I’m posting. I didn’t know what this striking marble building was when I got there, but later found out it is the National Monument built in honour of the first king, Victor Emmanuel II. It is referred to as Altar of the Fatherland and pretty much took my breath away. 🇮🇹 🇮🇹 🇮🇹 . . In other news I hear running shoes and dresses are making a comeback. 😂😂 . In my defence, I walked for 7 hours straight and it was over 40 degrees C - so this outfit was perfect. . . Have you ever toured a new city alone? Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting up with some super inspiring animal rights friends at St. George Subway Station in Toronto. There is an ad campaign here right now with powerful murals on the walls that tell the truth about how animals are exploited. The BeFairBeVegan campaign depicts animals that are being abused by humans. Bears at the zoo; chickens stuck in the food chain before being killed; a sad mamma cow yearning for her baby calf; pigs before slaughter; sheep wanting to live, and many others. The words SENTIENT are above as people walk towards the stairs. ❤️ ❤️ Famous and compassionate actor and vegan warrior Joaquin Phoenix met up with us for a tour of these black and white murals. He looked at the images with us and by the end of the day almost every media outlet in town had picked up the story. 🐥 🐷 🐮 Joaquin definitely helped this subway display get some traction as my entire Facebook feed was taken over with images of him last night. Not such a bad thing actually! He’s in Toronto for #TIFF and we are lucky he took time out of his busy schedule to help raise awareness for animals. 💙 💙 If you are in Toronto come check out the these passionate animal rights posters - they are also in transit shelters, on streetcars and bus murals. 🌱 . . Noah and I are back in Toronto after an amazing week in Myrtle Beach. If you caught my IG stories you saw some of the cool activities we did. Whether it was kayaking at sunset, walking along the pier, boating in search of dolphins, twirling around on the SkyWheel or searching for new vegan food options at Publix - it was all an adventure. I love traveling with my son and we have fun wherever we go. I wish summer could last forever but tomorrow is his first day of school. I recently attended a protest in Toronto with Climate Save to raise awareness about what is happening in the Amazon Rainforests of Brazil. Global warming is real and it’s horrifying what is happening there with deforestation since Bolsonaro took power. 🔥 🔥 This was even before the devastating wildfires finally got the attention of the mainstream media. Everyone needs to know that Brazil’s Amazon rainforests is burning at a record rate. And do you know why? Because of animal agriculture. That’s right, according to Rainforest Action Network, wildfires are deliberately started in efforts to illegally deforest land for cattle ranching. They are clearing the land for human use!! 🐮 🐮 "Farmers in the Amazon declared a “fire day” and coordinated a massive burnoff of trees to clear land for crops.” (The Guardian). 🐷 🐷 These crops are mainly for feeding farmed animals. Animals that will then be sent to slaughter and end up on your plate if you are not yet vegan. 🌱 🌱 The amazon are the lungs of our planet. Indigenous people and animals live on this land that is deliberately being burned and they are dying from these fires. . . So this could all be avoided if people went vegan, no joke. It’s that simple. If we stop eating animals the demand for meat will disappear. If the earth is to survive we all need to do our part and stop eating animals. . . If you want to do more to help you can speak out against the Brazilian embassy and raise awareness about what Bolsonaro is doing. Join a Climate Save Movement in your area and do not be silent. What would you do with two hours in gorgeous Florence? 🇮🇹 🇮🇹 See as much as you can and eat vegan food of course!! I enjoyed a delicious salad at Mercato Centrale in the upstairs food court.
