Ottawa Tourism Travel Writing Award– Runner up for “Canada’s Castle on the Hill Celebrates its 100th Anniversary” in the October/December 2012 issue of TraveLife Magazine
The runner-up prize goes to Miriam Porter for her story “Canada’s Castle on the Hill” in the October-November-December 2012 issue of TraveLife.
Our judge says:
The centennial of the Fairmont Château Laurier understandably spawned a number of entries this year, but “Castle on the Hill” was by far the most original and imaginative. By focusing on the viewpoint of a six-year-old boy, the author has brought the hotel to life in a unique way, and succeeds with her extended metaphor of a prince in his castle.
