I made Noah this super healthy bowl the other night and he totally loved it! Itโ€™s packed with protein and fresh veggies and everything a growing pre-teen needs! There are so many variations of plant based bowls to create - I try to use one protein, one grain, and lots of vegetables. ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ’š In other news, I was pretty excited when the new Canada Food Guide was released recently promoting a whole foods plant based diet. โžก๏ธโžก๏ธโžก๏ธ ๐Ÿ’š The guide urges Canadians to eat more plants and less meat and dairy, and drink more water and less juice and soda. ๐Ÿ’š The four food groups are also now eliminated and dairy has lost their own category. (Yay!!) So in a nutshell, meat and dairy are out and plants are in! I look forward to the day when the milk program at Toronto schools is eliminated entirely. I know itโ€™s going to happen. ๐Ÿฎ Needless to say the Dairy Farmers of Canada were not happy. But you know who is happy? The cows. And that truly makes me happy. This new guide will save both human and animal lives. โค๏ธ ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿฎ โค๏ธ โค๏ธ ๐ŸŒฑ ๐ŸŒฑ . . . . . #FoodIsMedicine #PlantLife #PlantBased #VeganCommunity #Vegan #Vegano #VeganFoodie #VeganPower #VeganLife #VeganFoodLovers #CrueltyFree #ForTheAnimals #AnimalRights #PlantBasedLife #VeganKids #Health #CanadaFoodGuide #ForksOverKnives #WhatTheHealth #DontEatAnimals #PlantPowered #GoGreen #VeganBowls #WholeFoodPlantBased #WFPB #VeganWriter #VeganJournalist
Last week I was scrolling through IG as many of us do and came across celery juice. I didnโ€™t know it was a thing, let alone that it had so many health benefits. I am obviously a bit late to the game as there over 75K #CeleryJuice tags; and through checking out photos I stumbled across @celeryjuicebenefits and Medical Medium @medicalmedium to discover itโ€™s a whole movement! ๐ŸŒฟ ๐Ÿ’š ๐ŸŒฟ If you know me, you know I am vegan for the animals, but following a plant based diet has huge health benefits and I am the type of person that tries to be proactive when it comes to health. So I was super excited to give celery juice a whirl because I am always open to new healthy food choices. Coincidentally (or not, who knows) this was the week I stopped drinking coffee (Oh God) for health reasons and I have seriously reduced my processed sugar intake. I am now having celery juice first thing in the morning instead of my usual coffee and sugar - and I am honestly really happy about it. ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ’š As for the taste - itโ€™s actually really good! Even my son Noah tried it and liked it, and asked for more! ๐Ÿ’š Itโ€™s super easy to make, I donโ€™t have a juicer so didnโ€™t think it was possible at first, but it turns out all you need is a blender and a mesh nut bag. Scroll for โ€œhow toโ€ and โ€œbenefitโ€ photos from Medical Medium. โžก๏ธโžก๏ธโžก๏ธ ๐Ÿ’š . Cheers to a celery infused life! ๐Ÿ’š . . Have you ever tried celery juice? What was your experience with it or other fresh juices? If not, what is your favourite healthy smoothie or juice? I would love to know your thoughts! ๐ŸŒฟ ๐Ÿ’š ๐ŸŒฟ ๐Ÿ’š ๐ŸŒฟ . . . . . . #MedicalMedium #FoodIsMedicine #CeleryJuiceBenefits #PlantLife #PlantBased #VeganCommunity #Vegan #Vegano #VeganFoodie #VeganPower #VeganFoodLovers #CrueltyFree #ForTheAnimals #AnimalRights #PlantBasedLife #VeganKids #Health #PlantPowered #GoGreen #Juicing #RawJuice #WholeFoodPlantBased #WFPB #VeganWriter #VeganJournalist
The snow in Toronto has now turned to freezing rain โ˜”๏ธ and the skies are grey so I am still trying to spread sunshine through photos. ๐ŸŒž Of course we can also spread sunshine by being kind, compassionate and caring - even to strangers that we meet in the elevator, grocery store, on the bus....๐Ÿ’ž Let kindness be contagious!! โค๏ธ ๐ŸŒผ ๐ŸŒน ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿ’ž This is another Phoenix photo from the summer. I love those little prickly cacti!๐ŸŒต ๐ŸŒต ๐ŸŒต In other news, today I am going to attempt to make fresh organic celery juice! Today it was -35C / - 31F in Toronto ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ brrrrr ๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿฅถ ๐Ÿฅถ โ„๏ธ So I am dreaming of warmer weather such as what we experienced in the stunning Sonoran Desert this past summer. We loved exploring Black Canyon City and all the prickly cactus growing wild. Stay tuned on articles coming out soon about the adventures we had in Phoenix, Arizona. ๐ŸŒต ๐ŸŒต And if you are like me and freezing today stay warm out there! ๐ŸŒž . . . . . . . . . #VisitPhoenix #DesertVibes #Throwback #Phoenix #Arizona #DesertLife #BlackCanyonCity #TravelWriter #TravelBlogger #TorontoWriter #Cacti #Nature #naturephotography #vegansofig #ladiesgoneglobal #wanderlusting #vegantravel #veganbloggers #vegan #naturelovers #TravelWomen #girlsthattravel #FamilyTravel #EcoTourism #femaletravelbloggers #KindTravel โค๏ธ
Sooooo excited to switch my winter boots for these flip flops next month when Noah and I go back to Mexico! YAY!!!! This time we are going to be staying right in Cancun, which we have never done before. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ ๐Ÿ–ค ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ So please tell me any Cancun activities that you loved! Is there a little shop we should visit? A restaurant with vegan options? A local fresh fruit kiosk? A nature park? I already know of the big ones, but what about some smaller ones? I am open to all ideas, except of course nothing that involves animals in captivity like swimming with the dolphins. ๐Ÿฌ = #NoTanks ๐ŸŒด ๐ŸŒด Thanks IG friends! And have a happy weekend. Now off to practice my Spanish with Noah...Adios! ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’› . . . . . #Mexico #RivieraMaya #Cancun #AtlanticOcean #BeachVibes #Vegan #VeganTravel #HumaneTravel #EcoTourism #LuxuryTravel #globelletravels #girlsborntotravel #Travelphotography #travelling #travelwomen #traveltheworld #wandertheworld #traveldiaries #ladiesgoneglobal #getlostnow #passportcollective #wanderlusting #FamilyTravel #GoVegan #Vegano #ExploreTheWorld #TravelWriter #TravelBlogger #Grateful ๐Ÿ’–
Happy Monday! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ’š Itโ€™s been freezing here in Toronto -15 C / 5 F all weekend and today too. ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ’™ So lets flashback to when Noah and I were in warmer weather and make this photo a three part series on the manatees of Blue Springs State Park, about an hour from Orlando, Florida. ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿ  ๐ŸŒณ As I mentioned earlier, the park is the winter home to more than 200 protected and endangered manatees. Their aquatic habit is at risk and so are their lives. I stressed the importance of not swimming with them, feeding them, hurting them in any way, or trying to take selfies in the water with them. ๐ŸŒธ ๐ŸŸ But as you can see we did take a most magical photo with a glorious manatee after all! She even let us hold her flippers and if you look closely you will see she is smiling. ๐Ÿ˜‰ . . . . . . #VisitOrlando #BlueSpringsStatePark #Manatees #Wildlife #SaveTheManatees #Orlando #GoVegan #VeganTravel #HumaneTravel #TravelBlogger #TorontoWriter #TravelWriter #VeganLife #VeganCommunity #Adventure #Nature #NaturePhotography #BeKind #EcoTravel #FLStateParks #EcoTourism #EcoTravel #wildlifeconservation #Conservation #wilderness #endangeredspecies #endangered #NoWildlifeSelfie #WildLifeOnEarth #WildLifeIG #WildLifeProtection
To continue from my last post and our visit to the magical Blue Springs State Park (about an hour drive from Orlando), we saw these huge black birds sitting high above the manatees down below. I believe they are double crested cormorants - and they are magnificent. I love getting back to nature and seeing wildlife in their natural habitat. Have you seen any animals in the wild lately? ๐Ÿฆ… ๐Ÿฆ… ๐Ÿฆ… ๐ŸŒณ That cool stuff hanging from the trees is called Spanish Moss. It grows on larger trees in tropical and subtropical climates and I have seen it when traveling in other parts of Florida and Georgia too. After doing some research I learned itโ€™s actually not technically a moss but a bromeliad, a perennial herb in the pineapple family. Cool! ๐Ÿ Some birds use the moss to build nests, while other creatures use it for shelter. ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿฆ… ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿฆ… . . . . . #VisitOrlando #BlueSpringsStatePark #SeaBirds #Birds #Trees #Manatees #Wildlife #Orlando #GoVegan #VeganTravel #TravelBlogger #HumaneTravel #TorontoWriter #TravelWriter #VeganLife #VeganCommunity #Adventure #Nature #NaturePhotography #BeKind #EcoTravel #EcoTourism #vegansofig #FLStateParks #wildlifeconservation #Conservation #wilderness #NoZoos #BanZoos #SpanishMoss ๐Ÿ’š
When Noah and I were in Orlando last month we went to nearby Blue Spring State Park to visit the magnificent manatees. The park is the winter home to more than 200 manatees and a beautiful place to relax and get back to nature. ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿข ๐Ÿ  As with all wildlife, it's very important that you donโ€™t touch, feed, or swim with the manatees, and donโ€™t enter any designated manatee sanctuaries. And it's so important you resist the urge to take a selfie with them - itโ€™s not worth risking their lives. ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿ’ง Manatees are protected under federal law by the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act - so itโ€™s illegal to harm them. Sadly though many of these manatees face danger from every direction - many get hit by boats from watercraft collisions, others die from pollution, cold stress, disease, entrapment, coastal development, and red tide (harmful algal blooms). ๐ŸŒผ ๐ŸŒผ While I was in the park I spoke with volunteers from Save the Manatee https://www.savethemanatee.org/ that are trying to help these endangered gentle giants. They help protect manatees and their aquatic habitat, this includes supporting manatee protection zones and raising awareness. Check out their website for more info! ๐ŸŒธ ๐ŸŒธ I was so moved by the wonderful work they are doing that when I returned home to Toronto I adopted one of the Blue Spring manatees! :) We choose to help Annie - she was rescued as an orphaned calf and released back in the wild in 2008. The funds from this program help efforts to protect manatees and their habitats. ๐Ÿข ๐ŸŠ Our adoption certificate just arrived and we are so excited to be part of something so special. ๐Ÿ  ๐Ÿ’ง Stay tuned for my article on the Blue Springs Manatees later in 2019!! โžก๏ธโžก๏ธScroll for photos โžก๏ธโžก๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ง ๐Ÿ’ง . . . . . . #VisitOrlando #BlueSpringsStatePark #Manatees #Wildlife #SaveTheManatees #Orlando #GoVegan #VeganTravel #TravelBlogger #TorontoWriter #TravelWriter #VeganLife #VeganCommunity #Explore #Adventure #Nature #NaturePhotography #BeKind #Adopt #GiveBack #EcoTravel #FLStateParks #EcoTourism #vegansofig #banzoos #wildlifeconservation #Conservation #wilderness #endangeredspecies #endangered โค๏ธ
